How Lazy Flora works

So here's where we've included as much information as possible about how Lazy Flora works, and what you need to know before you click 'buy'.

1) Choose your container

Lazy Flora container selection

Before you choose your plant collection, make sure you know where you're going to put them when you get them. You can use a container or planter of your own, or you can order one from our collection.

Lazy Flora plant collections come in two sizes:

  • Small, designed to fill a container of roughly 50 x 20 x 20cm or 30cm diameter.
  • Large, designed to fill a container of roughly 80 x 20 x 20cm or 50cm diameter.

Make sure your chosen container is big enough - but not too big - for your chosen plant collection.

If you're someone who travels a lot for work, or who isn't great at remembering to water their plants (and there are a couple of those among even the Lazy Flora team!). We stock some amazing self-watering containers, and we can tell you from personal experience that they do actually work - check out our founder Claire's blog article on her experience with them.

2) Choose your plant collection

This is the really fun bit! Now you get to choose the plant collection you want for your container.

Be sure to order a plant collection that's the same size collection as your container!

To make things easy for you, all our plant collections and container sizes are standardized, so if you order a small container and a small plant collection, they'll fit together perfectly. Click here to see the plant collections we currently offer.

3) Receive your delivery/deliveries*
*yes, there may be more than one delivery

Your planter and plant collection will arrive separately in the post.

Plant deliveries are currently released once a month, and are usually delivered on the last Friday of the month. Check our Delivery Calendar to see when the next plant shipment is scheduled to be released. We'll usually ask you to place an order a couple of weeks ahead of a scheduled delivery, although we're working hard to reduce this time for our customers.

Plant deliveries are currently scheduled to take place on Fridays, because our research has told us that most people will want to plant up their containers at the weekend, and it means that the plants are in their packaging for the least amount of time and our gardeners won't get (too) stroppy with us. So everybody's happy.

We'll start the process of shipping your container to you as soon as you place an order with us, so it should be with you in plenty of time for your plant delivery.

4) Plant up/Get a bit dirty

Lazy Flora planting up a container garden

As soon as possible after you receive your plant delivery, you should plant them up. To be sure the plants are in tip-top condition, we're talking within 24 hours.

We'll send step-by-step instructions on how to plant up your Lazy Flora container garden, complete with plant designs from a professional landscape gardener. You may or may not get a bit dirty doing this, that's up to you. ;-)

Planting up a large container (roughly 80 x 20 x 20cm or 50cm diameter) takes about 20-30 minutes for a total gardening newbie. We've done the research, with a bunch of willing volunteers, and are pleased to report that there were no tears, but there were a few proud selfies.

If you aren't able to plant up your container within 24 hours of receiving it, it's really important that you take the plants out of their packaging and give them some water as soon as you can. Plants in individual pots dry out a lot quicker than plants in containers even when it isn't that hot outside, and this can affect the longevity of your plants after they're in the container. However, containers retain moisture much better than individual plants, so this won't be such an issue once they're planted up.

5) Admire! (Water occasionally)

Once you've finished the planting up, you can focus on enjoying your plants! Lazy Flora boxes are designed to require minimal maintenance, and to survive in really varied conditions, so all you really need to do is water the plants to keep them looking great.

With careful and regular watering, our plant collections are designed to last a whole season - up to 12 weeks. That's all you need to do (of course, if you're the kind of person who wants to do more, we'll share with you some hints and tips on how to get the most out of your plant collection with every delivery too).

If you're the kind of person who isn't great at remembering to water your plants, you can join our friendly and non-spammy watering reminder service. We'll send you a watering reminder once a week, as well as additional reminders in the case of extreme weather.
